The Ahmedabad Metro train project is a rapid transit system in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
The project is being implemented by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) and will consist of two corridors:
- North-South corridor: This corridor will run from Motera Stadium to APMC, with a total length of 38.21 km and 32 stations.
- East-West corridor: This corridor will run from Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam, with a total length of 18.96 km and 16 stations.
- The metro system will have a mix of elevated and underground sections, depending on the area and feasibility.
- It will have Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system and the trains will be equipped with CCTV cameras for security.
- The metro trains will have a capacity of around 1,200 passengers and will run at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
- The project aims to provide an efficient and sustainable mode of transportation for the citizens of Ahmedabad and to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the city.
- The project is expected to be completed in phases, with the first phase of the North-South corridor expected to be operational by 2023.
- The project will have a total of 50 stations and 57 km of tracks.
- The metro trains will have a frequency of 3 minutes during peak hours and 5-6 minutes during off-peak hours.
- It will also have provisions for last mile connectivity, such as feeder buses and bike-sharing facilities to make it more convenient for commuters to reach the metro stations.
