Description
IC 7805 is a 5V Voltage Regulator that restricts the output voltage to 5V output for various ranges of input voltage. It acts as an excellent component against input voltage fluctuations for circuits, and adds an additional safety to your circuitry. It is inexpensive, easily available and very much commonly used. So, in this article we will use IC 7805 and make 5V power supplies.
Circuit Diagram
Here, We have used transformer to step down the supply voltage from 230 V to 9 V. You can use any other transformer to step down the AC voltage. Try to keep AC voltage above and near to 5V.
4 diodes connection which is called as rectifier are used to convert AC voltage to DC voltage. This voltage is then filtered with capacitor and given to IC 7805. This IC regulated the input voltage to 5 V DC. This output then further filtered through capacitor and given to load.
If you are using DC voltage as an input then you can neglect the capacitor filters and just using IC 7805 you will get your desired 5 V DC output.

7805 Pin Diagram
Keep IC 7805 front facing and on the left side pin 1 is input, pin 2 is ground and pin 3 is output. Attached heat sink with the IC to cool it down.
Simulation
Simulation is done in the Proteus Software and from this simulations we can easily observe the output voltage waveform which is steady at 5V.
